Ethan Sherman
PT, DPT, OCS, CMTPT
Ethan completed his undergraduate studies in Health and Human Sciences at James Madison University and earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University.
Ethan's work history includes 6 year at OrthoVirginia, where he was able to hone his skills treating acute injuries, chronic neck/back pain, and rehabbing patients following a host of orthopedic surgeries. He went on to open and manage Phoenix Physical Therapy’s Richmond clinic. It was during his time with Phoenix that he began rehabbing swimmers. Ethan then transitioned to Fox Rehabilitation. This was the first time he provided outpatient orthopedic physical therapy in patient's homes.
Ethan participated in an extensive post-grad education program through the Virginia Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Institute during his time at OrthoVirginia. Following completion of the program, he sat for and passed the Orthopedic Clinical Specialist exam. This earned him the distinction of becoming a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.
Ethan has developed strong relationships with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, SwimRVA, and Poseidon Swimming due to his ability to rehab a swimmer’s injury while keeping them in the pool. He also earned the trust of several sports physicians and orthopedic surgeons who typically oversee the care of competitive swimmers, including Dr. Jody Smith, Dr. Bill Nordt, and Dr. Robert Tuten. Ethan’s success and this trust have led to referrals of athletes who participate in other sports, including cycling, running, triathlons, golf, tennis, baseball, gymnastics, and cheerleading.
11+ years of experience
Ethan started The Athlete's Physical Therapist with the sole purpose of being able to provide his patients with excellent quality, one-on-one physical therapy that the traditional insurance model doesn't allow for. He brings 11+ years of experience to the plate for each and every patient he treats. He is devoted to continued education so he can provide the best care to his future patients.
When not working, Ethan loves to spend time with his wife Rachel and two children (Wyatt and Emory). Ethan and Rachel met their freshman year of college while competing on the swim team at James Madison University. They both still love to swim and exercise. They love to take Wyatt and Emory on family runs when the weather is nice. Ethan and Rachel are also teaching both children to swim in hopes of raising the next generation of swimmers.
