What They are Saying
Cash-Based Physical Therapy: Relief & Function Enhancement
Physical therapy aims to reduce pain, improve function, and facilitate, return to recreational exercise. Cash-based physical therapy is physical therapy services delivered by a licensed physical therapist to a patient without billing the patient's medical insurance. Instead, the patient is responsible for paying for the physical therapy services directly. In this model, the and physical therapy is not in-network with medical insurance.
In-clinic rate-$175 per hour of treatment
In-home/office rate-$175 per hour of treatment plus additional $25 convenience fee
Why Choose Cash-Based Physical Therapy Provider Over an
In-Network Insurance Physical Therapy Provider
Immediate Access, No Waiting:
New direct access laws allow patients to see a PT prior to being seen by a doctor. Patients no longer need a physical therapy prescription or physical therapy referral from their doctor. So there is no more waiting to see your doctor prior to starting PT.
Optimized Efficiency for Cost-Effective Care:
Cash-based physical therapist's can schedule your first PT appointment quicker than a typical insurance based PT. It usually takes 4-6 weeks (in RVA) to be seen by an insurance based outpatient orthopedic PT. The root cause of this wait is related to burnout. It is estimated that 29% of the PT's left the field following the COVID-19 pandemic due to burnout after multiple reimbursement cuts by private medical insurances. Outpatient orthopedic PT clinics in RVA who are in-network with private medical insurances are now severely understaffed.
Transparent and Predictable Costs:
Most insurance plans have copays and co-insurances that the patient is responsible for. Most patients also have hefty deductibles that must be met before their insurance begins to pay. The cost of using your medical insurance is dependent on your specific insurance but it is often more than most expect. Co-insurances can also leave you with surprise bills several months after your PT care is finished. Choosing a PT who uses the cash-based model gives you a clearer understanding of what you will get and what you will pay.
Swift Scheduling, Prompt Care:
Cash-based PT can be more cost effective as your entire episode of care is one-on-one with the PT. This is more efficient than the insurance based model, as those PT's require the assistance of PT technicians to supervise the care because they are forced to juggle 3+ patients at one time. The more one-on-one time with a cash-based PT means you will need fewer visits to achieve your goals.
